Claremont, Calif. - Juniors William Boyd (Hillsborough, Calif.) and Rutendo Matingo (Weston, Mass.) teamed up for a 8-3 doubles win and eac won in singles to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 6-3 victory over the Vassar College Brewers in men's tennis action this afternoon at Biszantz Family Center. Trinity evens its record at 2-2, while Vassar falls to 5-8.
Vassar won the first point at second doubles, but Trinity senior tri-captain Ford Traff (Wayzata, Minn.) and sophomore Rex Glickman (Chappaqua, N.Y.) won, 8-6, at first doubles to tie the match at 1-1. Boyd/Matingo put Trinity ahead, 2-1, with their victory, and Boyd quickly disposed of his opponent, 6-1, 6-1, at fifth singles for a 3-1 Trinity lead. The Bantams continued to keep the momentum, winning three more singles matches including Matingo's clinching, 7-5, 6-1, triumph at the No. 3 spot on the ladder, before the Brewers closed out the match with singles wins at the top-two positions in the lineup. Senior tri-captains Aaron Segel (Needham, Mass.) and Camden Smith (Dedham, Mass.) won the other singles matches for the Bantams.
