Trinity Men's Tennis Edged By Vassar

Claremont, Calif. - The Trinity College Bantams opened the 2016-17 spring season in frustrating fashion with a 5-4 setback against the Vassar College Brewers in men's tennis action this afternoon at Bisantz Tennis Center on the campus of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.  Trinity is now 1-1 and Vassar is 6-3.  The Bantams trailed, 2-1, after doubles play, as senior tri-captains William Boyd (Hillsborough, Calif.) and Rutendo Matingo (Weston, Mass.) posted an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 spot for Trinity.  Junior Kyle Scheffers (Flossmoor, Ill.) and Boyd won consecutive singles matches in straight sets to give Trinity a 3-2 lead, but back-to-back Brewer triumphs tilted the momentum back in their favor with a 4-3 Vassar lead.  Trinity junior Rex Glickman (Chappaqua, N.Y.) tied the match at 4-4 with a win in the No. 3 position, taking the tiebreaker, 7-3, but Alexander Luckmann returned the favor with a 7-2 win in the tiebreaker to edge Trinity senior tri-captain Jagger Riefler (Wimbledon, England) in the No. 6 match and clinch the team win for Vassar.
