Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lewiston, Maine - Junior RHP Madeline Spencer-Orrell (Northampton, Mass.) tossed a complete game with three strikeouts and sophomore Hannah Zukowski (Burlington, Conn.) went 2-for-4 at the plate with a three-run homer to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 4-2 victory over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division softball action this afternoon at Lafayette Street Field.  The Bantams, which dropped the second game, 3-2, is now 13-11 overall and 4-4 in the NESCAC East, while Bates is 12-16 overall and 4-4 in the division.  The teams will complete the three-game series on Sunday, April 28 with the weekend's action called off due to an expected storm.  Trinity hosts Wesleyan in its final home action of the regular season on Tuesday in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. and the Bobcats entertain Husson for two games starting at the same time.

Trinity scored all four of its runs in the first game in the top of the first inning. Bates fought back to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Bantams halted the late comeback attempt.  Spencer-Orrell allowed seve hits and three walks to improve to 8-2.  Junior Kirsten Pelletier (Sidney, Maine) pitched all seven innings for the Bobcats and logged two strikeouts, allowing six hits and walking four.  A double by Trinity senior tri-captain SS Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.) scored sophomore 3B Cassidy Schiff (Darien, Conn.) to make it 1-0, and Zukowski homered with Erickson and sophomore CF Jenna Thomas (Orange, Conn.) on to give the Bantams a 4-0 lead.  Trinity held the Bobcats off the scoreboard until the bottom of the seventh when a double up the middle by first-year Aleah Pagan (Orinda, Calif.) drove in a pair of runs, before Spencer-Orrell got the final two outs on a double play.  Erickson finished 2-for-3 with a walk for the Bantam offense.

In game two, the Bobcats rallied for a 3-2 victory, clinching the win in the bottom of the seventh. Bates scored one run in the bottom of the third and held a 1-0 lead until the top of the seventh, when Trinity scored two runs to go up 2-1. Pelletier also pitched all seven innings of game two and stroke out two. First-year RHP Jordan Stephan (South Orange, N.J.) took the loss for Trinity, pitching all seven innings and tallying five strikeouts.  In the top of the seventh with runners on second and third, Trinity rookie 2B Maura Keary (Fairfield, Conn.) hit a ground ball to shortstop, who threw home to get the lead runner.  Schiff avoided the tag at the plate and scored the game-tying run for Trinity. Bantam sophomore OF Samantha Witmer (Drexel Hill, Pa.) followed with a sacrifice fly left field to give the Bantams a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Bates came through with a double and three singles to leave Trinity on the field.  Zukowski and Chambers each went 1-for-2 for the Bantams.
