Hartford, Conn. — The Trinity College men's golf program finished round one of the Duke Nelson Invitational tied for 11th Saturday afternoon. The tournament, hosted by Middlebury College, fields 23 teams, with the top 12 teams separated by just 19 strokes.
The Bantams enter day two after a first round that saw a final score of 310. New York University and Middlebury are tied for the lead with 291, with Babson following close behind at 293. Johnson and Wales are in fourth with 302, leaving six teams in between the Wildcats and Trinity, who is tied with Tufts at 310.
Junior Ricardo Paes Leme (Lake Villa, Ill.) picked up right where he left off in the Bill Detrick Invitational, shooting a team-low 75 through day one and is tied for 18th best in the tournament. Freshman Nicholas Li (Vancouver, British Columbia) and sophomore Jacob Steckler (Barrington, R.I.) finished day one two strokes behind Leme with 77.
Round two of the Duke Nelson Invitational is set to begin at 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
