Hartford, Conn. – Despite shooting just one stroke behind round one result of the Duke Nelson Invitational, the Trinity college men's golf team finished tied for 15th in Sunday's final round. Out of 23 teams total, the Bantams missed the top five by just 20 strokes.
New York University won in commanding fashion, finishing with a team score of 579. Williams finished 10 strokes behind in second, and one stroke ahead of Middlebury, who placed third. Babson, Hamilton, and Skidmore rounded out the top six, while just seven strokes came between Johnson & Wales, Tufts, Western New England, and Manhattan, who rounded out the top ten. The Bantams, tied for 15th, split its team final of 621 with Springfield and Endicott.
Junior Ricardo Paes Leme (Lake Villa, Ill.) led the team through day two, shooting a 75 for the second straight round. Senior John Malicki (Albany, N.Y.) finished behind him, shooting a 78; both freshman Nicholas Li (Vancouver, British Columbia) and sophomore Jacob Steckler (Barrington, R.I.) finished round two with a 79.
Trinity hits the links next Saturday for day one of the Williams Fall Invitational; tee time is slated for 1 p.m.
