HARTFORD, Conn. – Trinity College head field hockey coach
Anne Parmenter picked up her 300
th career win Tuesday night when the Bantams defeated New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponent Connecticut College, 4-2. Trinity improves to 9-2 (5-2 NESCAC) while the Camels drop to 1-10 with an 0-8 mark in conference play. Parmenter and company will resume action Saturday at Hamilton College for an 11 a.m. showdown in New York.
Connecticut College jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the second period, before the Bantams came storming back with four unanswered goals. Sophomore
Jackie Frank put Trinity on the board, assisted by junior
Riley Nichols with just under five minutes to go before the halftime break. In the third period, senior
Caelin Flaherty intercepted a pass and fired a shot on target that was redirected by Frank to even the game at 2-2 (37:42).
With seven minutes to go in the game's final frame, the Bantams capitalized on a penalty corner to take the lead. Senior
Meghan Evans' initial shot was denied by the keeper but it was Frank, once again making an outstanding play, as she struck the ball out of mid-air for the go-ahead goal. Four minutes later, first-year Isabella Deveney helped Trinity obtain some breathing room when she riffled a shot off of a penalty corner that was redirected into the back of the cage by Flaherty to jump out 4-2.
Trinity out-shot the Camels 23-3 and held the advantage in penalty corners at 14-3.
Frank's three goals marks a new single-game best in her career while Deveney picked up her first-career assist. Flaherty leads both the Bantams and the NESCAC with 15 goals this season. She's scored in nine out Trinity's 11 games in 2021.
