Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Loses Close Game To Hamilton

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams suffered a 3-2 setback against the visiting Hamilton College Continentals in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice hockey action this afternoon at Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.  Sophomores Gerard Maretta (Brick, N.J.) and Kyle Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) scored the Bantam goals.  No. 10-ranked Trinity falls to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the NESCAC with its third one-goal loss at home in seven days.  Hamilton improves to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the league. The Bantams hosts Albertus Magnus on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in their next game and the Continental are at NESCAC rival Williams on Friday at 7 p.m. Trinity doubled up Hamilton shooting the puck in the first period, 14-7, and rookie Nicholas Siffringer (Franklin Lake, N.J.) nearly scored eight minutes into the game but was stopped one-on-one against Hamilton goalie Sean Storr.  Grisha Gotovets scored for the visitors on a power play with just 1:33 remaining before the first break, converting on assists by Nick Rutigliano and Jeremy Smith.  The Bantams managed just four shots in the second period, despite three power plays, but Maretta tied the game on a redirect in front of the net after rookie Eamon Doheny (Lunenberg, Mass.) sent the puck toward the goal from the right faceoff circle.  Trinity first-year Patrick Pugliese (Pasadena, Calif.) stopped all shots he faced in the middle frame, finishing with 21 saves in the contest. Hamilton took a two-goal lead in the third stanza, scoring twice in a 55-second span.  Cade Groton scored the go-ahead goal from David Parker and Matt Gellerman 7:58 into the third, and Jordi Jefferson scored on another Continental power play with 11:07 on the clock.  Trinity gambled during a 4x4 situation late in the third period, pulling Pugliese for an extra skater with 2:30 left in the game.  Hamilton was quickly whistled for another penalty and the home team used its two-man advantage with the goalie out to pull within one.  Tomaso scored on a blast after passing the puck and forth between himself and sophomore defenseman John Campomenosi (Wayne, N.J.).  Senior captain Lucas Michaud (South Portland, Maine) also assisted on the play. Campomenosi made Storr save another Trinity shot with Pugliese still out but was called for a penalty moments later and Hamilton ran out the clock with a man advantage.  Storr had 30 saves to earn the win in net.
