Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Beaten By Albertus Magnus

HARTFORD, Conn. - The first-ever men's ice hockey between state rivals Trinity College and Albertus Magnus College went to the visiting Falcons, 3-1, this evening on Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.  Trinity falls for the fourth game in a row and is now 3-4 with No. 4-ranked Hobart heading to Hartford for the final game of the fall semester on Saturday at 4 p.m.  Albertus Magnus collects its sixth consecutive victory to improve to 6-4.  Junior Paul Selleck (Laguna Hills, Calif.) scored for the Bantams.

The first period started slowly with each defense holding its opposing offense to limited early opportunities.  Bantam junior forward Riley Prattson (Tolland, Conn.) was stopped one-on-one by Falcon goalie Logan Bateman with 6:19 left in the first and Tyler Ignazzito shot wide from point-blank range on the right side moments later.  Albertus scored the game's first goal on a two-on-one against Trinity sophomore backstop J.P. Mella (Stamford, Conn.), and Alex Gagnon converted on a helper by Ryan Colwell with 3:04 remaining before the first break.

Trinity tied the game midway through the second period when Selleck beat Bateman with a wrister from straight-on after quick passes from behind the net by senior Kevin O'Leary (New Canaan, Conn.) to senior captain Cole Poliziani (Burlington, Ontario) and then from Poliziani on the right wing to Selleck at the top.  The Falcons went back ahead 12:55 into the second period, catching Trinity in a change and scoring in transition after an initial pass ahead from Bateman to Charles Risk who fed Owen Allan for the game-winner.  Albertus nearly went ahead, 3-1, late in the middle frame, but Mella stonewalled Sam Anderson alone on a breakaway.  The teams put 10 shots on each goalie in the final period but both stood tall, and the visitors added an empty-netter by Jonathan Stein in the final minute.  Mella finished with 32 saves and Bateman had 29.
