Trinity Baseball Takes Two From Lasell

Hartford, Conn. – First-year 1B Sean Meth (Sands Point, N.Y.) went 5-for-8 at the plate with two doubles, three runs, and three RBIs to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 5/15-3/8 doubleheader (7/7) sweep against the visiting Lasell University Lasers in baseball action afternoon on Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium.  Trinity improves to 5-3 and the Lasers drop to 2-8.  The Bantams visit Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., while Lasell hosts Norwich for a Friday twinbill at 4 p.m. at Brandeis University.

Trinity opened the day with three runs in the first inning of game one.  Senior Vince Capone (Ambler, Pa.) hit a two-run single and Meth added a run-scoring single.  Lasell scored twice in the second frame on a Bantam error and a passed ball, but the Bantams tacked on two more runs in the third inning on back-to-back RBI doubles by Meth and senior co-captain C Alex Rodriguez (South Windsor, Conn.).  Trinity sophomore RHP Alex Chang (Sands Point, N.Y.) allowed just one hit and struck out four over 3.1 innings of relief to collect his first career win.  Two runners got on base for the Lasers in the last inning but Trinity junior RHP Jake Mello (Kennebunk, Maine) got the last two outs on a pick off and a strikeout.  Bantam sophomore SS Patrick Dillon (Bronx, N.Y.) was 3-for-3 with two runs.  Lasell senior RHP Patrick Colvin (Lenox Dale, Mass.) went the distance in a losing effort with two strikeouts and no walks.

The Bantams pounded out 18 hits in the second game, scoring twice in the first, 10 times, in the second, twice in the third, and once in the fourth inning.  Meth and sophomore 2B Andrew Tuozzolo (Pittstown, N.J.) had three hits apiece, while Capone doubled and tripled, and first-years Jack Mathews (Westport, Conn.) and Bennett Teceno (Centerville, Mass.), junior Mike Guanci (Wakefield, Mass.), and senior C Eric Thronson (McLean, Va.) also had two hits for Trinity.  Thronson drove in four runs and Teceno blasted a two-run homer to right field for his first college hit.  Junior Mike Motyka (Vernon, Conn.) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Lasell.  Rookie RHP Sam Craven (Wakefield, R.I.) allowed six hits and fanned five over five innings to earn his first career win for Trinity on the hill.
