Trinity Women's Soccer Outlasts Union For Double Overtime Win

Hartford, Conn. - Junior Hannah Storozuk (Tolland, Conn.) scored the golden goal in the 107th minute to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Union College Dutchwomen in women's soccer action this evening at Trinity Soccer Field.  Trinity wins its third game in a row and extends its unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1).  Union drops to 3-5-1.  The Bantams visit NESCAC rival Bowdoin on Saturday at noon in their next game and Union visits Vassar the same day at 3 p.m.

Storozuk knocked in the game-winner after the ball bounced among several players in the box and sophomore teammate Tess Flanders (Norwell, Mass.) managed a short pass to her on the right of Union goalie Abby Mitty.  Union had forced the extra time with a goal by Emma Schleimer with 1:27 left in regulation.  Trinity senior goalkeeper Jen Stuart (Newburyport, Mass.) came out to make a save against Dutchwoman senior Erin O'Shea but Schleimer knocked in the rebound for the first goal against Stuart this season.

Trinity had broken a scoreless tie early in the second half when senior captain Whitney Hoban (Winnetka, Ill.) converted on a penalty kick in the 57th minute.  Bantam sophomore forward Tori Simas (Newburyport, Mass.) got taken down in the box on a breakaway to earn the try.  Trinity outshot Union, 10-1, in the first half and, 36-10, overall including decent bids by Hoban and sophomores Dot Tilden (Hanover, Mass.) while the game was still 0-0 and by sophomores Gabby Grattan (Milton, Mass.) and Cassie Lee (Newton, Mass.) in the overtimes.  Stuart improved to 4-0 with five saves but saw her 363-minute streak of scoreless play come to an end.  Mitty was heroic with 17 saves for the Dutchwomen.
