Trinity Women's Ice Hockey Edged By Hamilton, 4-3

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College women's ice hockey team fell to Hamilton College, 4-3 on Friday night in the Koeppel Community Sports Center in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) competition.  The loss is just the third on the season for the Bantams as they now sit at 6-3-1 overall and hold a 2-2 record in conference play. Meanwhile, Hamilton improves to 7-4-0 (4-3 NESCAC). Both teams resume action tomorrow for a 4 p.m. rematch inside the Koeppel Community Sports Center.

Hamilton scored first on a goal from Allie Curry at the 6:45 mark and continued to dominate the remainder of the first period as goals from Emily Ferguson followed by Nancy Loh put the Continentals ahead 3-0 heading into the night's first break despite being outshot by the Bantams 13-7. In the second period, Trinity continued to fire shots on goal and once again outshot Hamilton 15-7.

Nearly 14 minutes into the second period, the Bantams netted their first goal of the contest as junior Olive Scull (South Strafford, Vt.) cleaned up the ricochet that was originally put on target by junior Claudia Capone (Foxboro, Mass.).  With just over a minute remaining in the second frame, senior Bergen Kobienia (Edina, Minn.) lifted the puck up ahead to a streaking Angelica Mushenko (East Longmeadow, Mass.) who was able to use her speed to her advantage and beat two Hamilton defenders to the puck and net Trinity's second goal of then night to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The first five goals in the game all came at even strength, but the Bantams were the first to capitalize on a power-play as Capone buried the equalizer less than three minutes into the third period. However, a pair of penalties against the Bantams gave Hamilton a 5-on-3 situation seven minutes into the third period, to which Loh was able to find the back of the net for the second time in the contest and give the Continentals what would end up being the game-winner. Junior goaltender Stephanie Garvis (Plymouth, Minn.) got the start in net for the Bantams and made 23 saves while Hamilton goalie, Gab Venne collected 32 saves.
