Men's Ice Hockey Clips Bowdoin in Overtime

BRUNSWICK, Maine – An overtime goal from junior Andrew Troy (Ithaca, N.Y.) gave the Trinity College men's ice hockey team a 2-1 victory over New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe, Bowdoin College on Sunday afternoon in Brunswick, Maine. The Bantams improve to 7-5 (5-3 NESCAC) while the Polar Bears fall to 3-5-3 (3-3-2 NESCAC). Troy and company resume action this Friday with a 7 p.m. home game against Connecticut College in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.

Senior Lucas Michaud (South Portland, Maine) nearly gave the Bantams an early lead three minutes into Sunday's action when he stole the puck and had a scoring opportunity that was turned away by Bowdoin goaltender Alex Kozic. Trinity later posted the game's first goal at the 12:45 mark when sophomore Gerard Maretta (Brick, N.J.) carried the puck down center ice and snuck a shot past Kozic to give the Bantams a 1-0 lead.
Bowdoin later answered with the equalizer to tie the game at 1-1 with 2:53 remaining in the second period. Ean Small dished to Nate Clark on the left post who flicked the puck just inside the post. In the extra period, it was Trinity's Riley Prattson (Tolland, Conn.) who had the puck on the right side and found Troy in the slot who ripped a one-timer into the back of the net for the game winner.

Both of Trinity's goals came at even strength as the Bantams were shut out on their power-play going 0-for-4 on the day, however, Trinity also managed to neutralize both of Bowdoin's power-plays as well. Kozic recorded a career-high 49 saves in net for the Polar Bears while sophomore J.P. Mella (Stamford, Conn.) registered 18 saves for Trinity.
