Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Edges Amherst College, 3-1

AMHERST, Mass. – Senior Cole Poliziani (Burlington, Ontario) netted a pair of second-period goals on Friday night to lead the visiting Trinity College men's ice hockey team to a 3-1 victory over New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponent, Amherst College. Poliziani and company improved their record to 9-6-0 (7-4 NESCAC) while the Mammoths slide to 6-8-2 and 5-5-1 in conference play. Up next for the Bantams is a 3 p.m. contest at Hamilton tomorrow in Clinton, N.Y. Meanwhile Amherst will have a day off before returning to Orr Rink for afternoon showdown with Wesleyan University.

Following a scoreless first period, Poliziani put Trinity on the board (11:30 P2) with the help of junior Riley Prattson (Tolland, Conn.) who would later tally his second assist, once again dishing to Poliziani to extend the Bantam lead to 2-0 (15:18 P2). Poliziani nearly posted a hat trick in an attempt to give the Blue and Gold a 3-0 lead late in the third period but Amherst defenseman Connor McGinnis managed to poke away the puck while trailing behind.

The Mammoths cut the deficit to one score with 13:50 remaining in regulation as Connor Merrill collected the puck shortly following a faceoff and buried what appeared to be a wide-open look at the net. Trinity's third and final tally came on an empty net with just under two minutes to go as first-year Richard Boysen (Belle Vernon, Pa.) registered his third career-goal.

The Bantams outshot Amherst 30-26 while sophomore goaltender Patrick Pugliese recorded 25 saves and picked up his seventh win in net this season. Mammoth goalie Dan Dachille collected 27 stops on the night.
