WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Trinity College women's ice hockey team was defeated by Williams College 3-2 as Meghan Halloran scored two goals en route to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) win for the Ephs. The loss marks just the second this season for the Bantams as they now shift to 5-2-1 with an even 1-1 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, Williams improves to 7-2-0 and 3-2-0 in the NESCAC. The two teams will meet again tomorrow in Williamstown for a 3 p.m. non-conference matchup.
Less than six minutes into action, William's Ellia Chaing put the first goal of the night in net and on the board for the Ephs with the help of Halloran and Paige Galle but a Trinity power play goal at the 10-minute mark evened the score, as first-year
Claire Kennedy (Marshfield, Mass.) was assisted by senior captain Cassidy McNeely (South Easton, Mass.) for her first career goal.
Nearly six minutes later, a flurry of Ephs' shots was finally tucked away by Halloran giving Williams the 2-1 lead in the first period before she netted her second goal of the game later on in the second frame to extend the lead to two scores for the home team. Bantam junior
Olive Scull cut the deficit down to one, netting the second goal of the night for the Blue and Gold with 13 minutes remaining in regulation. Scull was assisted by McNeely and senior
Claudia Capone.
A Trinity power play with three minutes left in the final period provided the visiting team with an opportunity to tie the game but the Bantams fell short of netting the equalizer despite a last chance effort in pulling the goaltender. Sophomore goalkeeper
Hannah Leclair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) recorded 30 saves while Williams' Chloe Heiting secured the win in net with 17 saves of her own.
