Michael Traynor (Rye, N.Y.) netted his first goal of the season to knot the game at one apiece for the Trinity College men's soccer team but couldn't hold up after a pair of goals by Western Connecticut State University sealed the 3-1 loss on Wednesday. The Bantams dropped to 1-9-3 overall, while the Wolves improved to 16-0-1.
WestConn connected with the net early with a low goal crossing the box towards the right post by Payton Blynn to put the home team up 1-0. The visitors nearly netted the equalizer in the stanza but
James Donaldson's bullet nearly missed the target by inches. The scoreboard remained in the Wolves favor until Traynor headed one into the open side of the net five minutes into the second half after a nifty feed by
Jacob Loor (Houston, Texas) and the sophomore's first assist of the season.
Less than 10 minutes later, the Wolves regained the lead over the Bantams with a blast by Kent Eannarino, who later added an insurance goal with six seconds remaining on the clock.
In the box,
Bernardo Simoes (Lisbon, Portugal) kept Trinity in fighting shape with several highlight reel worthy saves and nabbed nine stops in the process.
Trinity returns home for a New England Small College Athletic Conference matchup against Williams College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
