DANBURY, Conn. — With the score being 2-0 in favor of Western Connecticut State University after the first two opening sets, the Trinity College volleyball team fought back in the next pair of sets to force a fifth before the Bantams dropped a 3-2 decision on Saturday (26-28, 22-25, 25-17, 25-17, 14-16). Trinity moved to 7-12 overall, while the Wolves improved to 12-10.
The Bantams welcomed a service erorr and attack error by the home team to take a 2-0 lead in the first set. The momentum carried for Trinity 16-15 highlighted by a back-to-back kills by
Molly Bernstein (Oakland, Calif.), a trio of spikes by
Lola Craig (Loss Angeles, Calif.) and two kills by
Eva Lekovic (San Marino, Calif.). A trio of players for Trinity would notch double figures in kills through five sets. Lekovic, Craig and
Ava Boloyan (American Canyon, Calif.) racked up 19, 11, and 10 respectively. WestConn widened the advantage to 2-0 with a 25-22 second set win.
Trinity put together a rally to capture the third and fourth, deadlocking the count at 2-2. Things looked good early in the fifth and final set for WestConn. They jumped out to a 4-0 lead. However, the Bantams rallied to even the score. The contest remained close for the remainder. An attack error from Trinity gave the hosts a 15-14 lead. Abbi Debes then soared above the net with a spike to round the game out at 16-14.
Trinity returns home on Tuesday to face Framingham State University at 6 p.m.
