Women's Soccer Stuns No. 4 Middlebury in NESCAC Quarterfinals

Mia Fusco and Dot Tilden recorded both Bantam goals.

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Mia Fusco (Winchester, Mass.) and Dot Tilden (Hanover, Mass.) handled business for the Trinity College women's soccer team as the duo notched both goals in the 2-1 triumph over No. 4 Middlebury College in the New England Small College Athletic Conference Quarterfinals and the first time in program history the team stopped the Panthers in the post season on their home turf on Saturday. The last away victory against Middlebury for the Bantams was a regular season matchup on September, 18 2010. The team moved to 7-3-6 overall and 4-2-4 in the league, while the Panthers' season ended at 10-5-1 and 5-4-1.

With a little over ten minutes remaining in the opening half, Fusco drilled the rock into the low left of the corner to put Trinity up, 1-0, off the foot of Hannah Storozuk (Tolland, Conn.). Tilden notched the second goal at the 57th minute with a long shot as the ball dinked the top of Middlebury's cage and connected with the high right corner of the net with the assist by Cassie Lee (Newton, Mass.). The home team wiped the shutout off the board when Elise Morris sent a shot past Mariana Cournoyer (St. Paul, Minn.) into the low left of the net.

The home team fired a lofty 18 shots with only seven on goal as Cournoyer caught six in the cage, while Trinity attempted a third of the shots with four on target. Tilden recorded a trio of shots and one on goal, while Lee attempted a shot and Sadie Rudolph (Weston, Conn.), Gabby Grattan (Milton, Mass.) and Fusco each tallied a pair with one on goal. Middlebury accrued seven corners and the visitors didn't draw any.

The Bantams will play No. 6 Wesleyan University on November 5 at 1:30 p.m. in the NESCAC Semifinals hosted by Amherst College.
