AMHERST, Mass. — The Trinity College women's soccer team's postseason run came to an end in the New England Small College Athletic Conference Semifinals after a 3-0 defeat with Wesleyan University, hosted by Amherst College on Saturday. The Bantams finished the season 7-4-6 overall, while the Cardinals continued with a 8-4-6 record.
Wesleyan notched the first goal of the contest at the 24th minute when Audrey Lavey connected with the net off the foot of Katie O'Connell, who got her second assist of the game seven minutes into the second half when Grace Devanny brought the score to 2-0.
The Bantams had the chance to score the equalizer when Elena Lindonen (Boxford, Mass.) sped across the field 31 seconds into the second half before a Cardinal blocked the shot. With the score 2-0, Sofia Quijada (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) drew the goalkeeper Sarah Hammond out of the box but with a quick side move, the sophomore broke past towards the open net but a Cardinal was there to make the save.Â
Lavey tallied another goal in the 72nd minute with help from Kate Hausladen for the final 3-0 score.Â
Wesleyan outshot Trinity 15-10 as the Bantams attempted half the shots on goal as the Cardinals with four on target. Dot Tilden (Hanover, Mass.) and Alyssa Keane (Dedham, Mass.) led the team as the duo recorded four total shots and a pair on goal.
Marianna Cournoyer (St. Paul, Minn.) stopped five Cardinal shots in the box, including two back-to-back saves a minute apart in the second half. Trinity had two corner kicks in the first half, but were denied the chance in the second.
