Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Trinity Field Hockey Beaten By Bowdoin For First Home Loss

HARTFORD, Conn. - Georgie Coetzer scored the game's only goal on a penalty corner with 5:47 left in the fourth quarter to lead the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 1-0 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action this afternoon on Sheppard Field.  Trinity, ranked No. 5 in the nation, falls to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in the NESCAC with its second setback in a row.  Bowdoin, ranled No. 16 nationally, improves to 7-3 overall and 2-3 in the league.  Trinity will host Keene State next on Wednesday at 6 p.m.  Junior goalkeeper Olivia McMichael (Glenside, Pa.) made five saves for the Bantams.

The first half ended scoreless and featured just seven shots on goal.  The closest chance came late in the second quarter when Trinity sophomore back Izzy Deveney (Westport, Conn.) had her blast from the top of the circle off a penalty corner stopped by Coetzer on a defensive save.  Bowdion's Faith Jennings had a breakaway late in the third frame, but McMichael cut her off outside the circle and batted the ball away with her stick to keep the game at 0-0.  The Polar Bears finally broke through when Jennings and Caroline Higgins assisted Coetzer on the clincher from the top of the circle.  Caelin Flaherty (Upton, Mass.) got off a shot from close that was stopped by Bowdoin goalie Julia Arsenault in the final two minutes, and Trinity had a last penalty corner while playing up a person but could not get off a shot.  Arsenault finished with three saves.
