Trinity Women's Ice Hockey Beaten By Hamilton In Overtime Again

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams fell to the Hamilton College Continentals, 2-1, in overtime for the second day in a row in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action Saturday afternoon at Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity drops to 3-4 overall and 0-4 in the NESCAC but earns its second point in the conference standings in as many days.  The Continentals improve to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the league.  Trinity hosts No. 6-ranked Norwich next on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Hamilton welcomes No. 13-ranked Endicott for two games next weekend.

In the tightly-contested first period, the Bantams finished with a slight shooting advantage, 11-9, and both netminders had their moments.  Trinity rookie defender Jelani Adorno (Tariffville, Conn.) made Continental goalie Evie Sheridan make a nifty save with her glove on a wrap-around the back of the net with 12:32 on the clock.  Bantam junior backstop Hannah Leclair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) denied Hamilton's Maura Holden on a breakaway in the first frame's final minute.

Rookie forward Lillian Cassidy (Aspen, Colorado) gave the Bantams a 1-0 lead just under two minutes into the second period with her first career goal. Cassidy handled a bouncing pass by Adorno in front of her team's bench and got behind the Hamilton defense before Sheridan one-on-one over her shoulder.  The lead was short-lived, as the Continentals tied the game up again just moments later on a hard shot into the upper corner of the net by Mya Berretta.  Rookie Annabelle Merkel () nearly gave Trinity back the lead with a quick shot during a scramble in front of the Hamilton crease, but Sheridan turned the puck away.

In the third period, Leclair kept the game tied, deflecting shot after shot for 12 of her 31 saves.  She stymied Hamilton's Abby Smith in the first minute of the final frame and had stops on several other decent chances by the visitors among the 12.  Trinity killed a penalty in the final 51 seconds of the third, giving themselves up repeatedly to block three Continental shots in the last minute.  Abby Kuhns scored the clincher during that same power play, however, finding the back of the net on the fifth Continental shot of overtime just 52 seconds into the 5x4 extra session.
