Leclair Hands #5 Norwich First Shutout of the Season, 3-0

HARTFORD, Conn. — In the cage, Hannah Leclair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) stood strong to keep #5 Norwich University off the board to snap the Cadets three game win streak and deliver their first shutout this season in the Trinity College women's ice hockey 3-0 shutout at the Koeppel Community Sports Center on Tuesday. The Bantams improved to 4-4 overall, while Norwich dropped to 7-2. Trinity travels to Suffolk University on December 10 with a 4:45 p.m. matchup in Boston, Mass.

Through the first two periods, the scoreboard read 0-0 until Jelani Adorno 's (Tariffville, Conn.) netted the eventual game-winning puck off a powerplay opportunity. Claudia Capone (Foxboro, Mass.) stole the puck from a Cadet defender as she skated past to dribble the puck before sending it to Martina Exnerova (Nelahozeves, Czechia), who sent a bullet at the net as the first-year snuck it past Leocadia Clark in the box. Three minutes later, first-year Lillian Cassidy (Aspen, Colo.) put Trinity up 2-0 off the sticks of Stephanie Nevers (West Suffield, Conn.) and Erin DeMarco (Westford, Mass.). Capone came in hot towards Clark with a pump fake to force the goaltender to shift before firing it straight back into the netting. The co-captain was sent the puck by Adorno who juked past the defender immediately after receiving the pass from DeMarco near the blueline.

Norwich had several opportunities to capitalize as the team attempted 22 shots, with 14 turned away by Leclair, eight blocked by Bantams including a pair by Capone and a trio of powerplay chances. The Cadets sent 13 on target through the first two period stalemate but were held to a single shot on goal in the third period. Clark stopped half a dozen shots in the first and nine in the second but Trinity connected on three of six shots on goal in the final period. The Navy & Gold outshot the Cadets 27-14 as Capone, Adorno and Exnerova each had four shots.
