Trinity Women's Basketball Erases Emmanuel

HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior center Reilly Campbell (Wallingford, Conn.) amassed 27 points, sinking 10 of 17 field goals, 15 rebounds, and three blocks to lead the Trinity College Bantams to their fourth win in a row, 60-45, over the Emmanuel College Saints in women's basketball action this evening on Ogrodnik Court in Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity will play again, after a quick turnaround, tomorrow night at Lasell at 7
pm.  Bantam junior Emma Wax (Pine Brook, N.J.) added 12 points and sophomore guard Hannah Marzo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had nine points, eight rebounds, and three assists.

Trinity's defense was stifling throughout, especially in the early going as the Bantams yielded just one field goal in the first 6:48 of the game and led, 8-2, late in the first quarter with Campbell scoring five of the eight.  Emmanuel scored eight of the last 11 points in the first quarter and trailed just, 11-10, after one quarter.  Trinity found their groove offensively in the second quarter, using another 8-2 spurt to lead, 19-12, while a put-back by Campbell and a three-pointer by junior guard Tori Varsamis (Belmont, Mass.) in the final minute put the home team ahead by double digits at 30-19 at halftime.

Trinity sought to put the game away in the third quarter, widening their lead to 21 at 41-20 with 3:50 left in the third.  Campbell and Wax scored four points each during the 11-1 run. Yannie Chan scored eight of Emmanuel's 14 points lat in the third, as the Saints cut their deficit to seven at 41-34 at the final break. Olivia Matela made a trey at the buzzer for Emmanuel to close the third.  In the fourth, Trinity handled Emmanuel's full-court pressure and ran the shot clock down on almost every possession.  Campbell scored nine points in a row at one point as the Bantams built their lead back up and won going away.  Matela paced the Saints, who shot just 27 percent from the floor, with 10 points.
