Trinity Men's Basketball Falls To Colby

HARTFORD, Conn. - Senior guard Matt Hanna (Milford, Mass.) had 22 points, six rebounds, and five assists to lead the visiting Colby College Mules to a 76-69 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's basketball action this afternoon on Ogrodnik Court in Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity falls to 10-7 overall and 1-4 in the NESCAC, while the Mules improve to 11-8 overall and 4-4 in the league with their fourth victory in a row.  The Bantams visit conference rival Tufts next on Friday at 7 p.m. and Colby plays at NESCAC foe Hamilton on the same day at the same time.  Senior tri-captain Donald Jorden Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) paced the Bantams with 20 points.

Colby led, 31-29, at halftime, jumping out to a 19-12 advantage at the 7:46 mark with a 9-0 run.  Trinity answered with seven straight points and tied the game at 19-all on a trey by rookie guard Ethan McEachern (Portland, Oregon) 90 seconds later.  Hanna gave the Mules a 30-24 lead on a 3-pointer with 2:31 on the clock, but Jorden scored on a put-back as time expired before the half to make it a two-point game.  The game was even over the first six minutes of the second half before Lucas Green scored five points in a row to give Colby a 49-44 lead at the 12:43 mark.  The visitors kept their lead the rest of the way thanks to 19 free throws in 21 attempts after the break.

Jorden made eight of 12 shots from the field and four of five from the foul line, while adding 10 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a blocked shot.  Sophomore forward Ben Callahan-Gold (New York, N.Y.) knocked down five of seven shots from deep to finish with 17 points and eight boards, while classmate Gilbert Otoo (Burtonsville, Md.) contributed 11 points and four assists.  Jonah Obi had 14 points and five rebounds, while Noah Tyson added 11 points and five rebounds for the Mules.  Trinity took 70 shots to just 47 for the Mules, but Colby's 86.2 percent shooting from the foul line (25-29) was the difference.
