HARTFORD, Conn. – First-year
Martina Exnerova (Nelahozeves, Czechia) netted two goals including the game winner to lead the Trinity College women's ice hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Connecticut College on Tuesday night in the Koeppel Community Sports Center. The Bantams improve to 9-11-1 with a 5-9-0 mark in conference games and remain in the seven spot with 16 points in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) standings. Connecticut College shifts to 7-13-2 (3-11 NESCAC) and remains at the bottom of the league standings with eight total points. Trinity has two games left on the regular season slate with a 7 p.m. tilt against Wesleyan University this Friday in Hartford before visiting the Cardinals for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday.
Following a scoreless first period, Trinity made quick work in the second when the puck kicked out to first-year
Paige Kehoe (Manasquan, N.J.) following a faceoff. After gaining control, Kehoe quickly sent it down to classmate
Martina Exnerova who flipped the puck behind her for the goal as she had her back facing the net.
A hooking penalty on the Bantams at the 14:51 mark gave the Camels their second power play of the night and Kaaren Liston netted the game-tying goal less than a minute later with the help of Natalie Witkowski and Melissa Alexander who each were credited with assists on the play.
In the night's final frame, it was Exnerova netting her second goal of the night and the game winner for the Bantams at the 13-minute mark. The first-year center caught Connecticut College off guard when she swooped in and took the puck away from a Camel defender behind the goal. A flurry of point blank shots in a scrum was finally pushed through to give Trinity the 2-1 lead. Sophomore
Hannah Leclair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) recorded 21 saves for the home team while Carly Denora made 15 stops for the visitors.
