Women's Ice Hockey Ties Wesleyan in Overtime

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College women's ice hockey team tied the Wesleyan Cardinals, 1-1, on Friday night in New England Small Conference Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play inside the Koeppel Community Sports Center. Trinity's record goes to 9-11-2 with a 5-9-1 mark in the conference and remains in the seventh spot in the conference standings with 17.5 points, while Wesleyan moves to 7-12-1 (3-11-1 NESCAC) on the season.  Both teams resume action for a rematch tomorrow at Wesleyan with a 3 p.m. puck drop to conclude the regular season.

It was a strong defensive game for both teams, with each side conceding only one goal apiece. Goalies Rei Halloran and sophomore Hannah Leclair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) had 28 and 21 saves, respectively.  The first goal of the goal came 17:47 into the first period for the Cardinals, when forward Brooke Keough tapped in a rebound right in front of the net.

The second period was scoreless despite power-play opportunities for both teams, however, the Bantams netted the equalizer 11:45 into the third period, as sophomore forward Jenny Guider (Ridgefield, Conn.) tucked away a wrist shot on the Trinity power play.  The score stayed level for the rest of the third, sending the game into overtime.  Both teams had chances in the extra session, including a penalty in the final seconds called against the Bantams that gave Wesleyan a 4-on-3 advantage but Leclair stood strong and denied a Cardinals shot on goal in the waning seconds.  Trinity finished with 29 shots, as the visitors tallied 21. Wesleyan was 0-5 on the power play, while Trinity was 1-5.
