HARTFORD, Conn. – Sophomore
Samantha Gallo (Northford, Conn.) posted her fifth double-double of the season to lead the Trinity College women's basketball team to a 66-55 win over New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe, Williams College on Tuesday night in Ray Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams tally their fourth-straight win to improve to 15-4 and 7-1 in conference games. Meanwhile, the Ephs slide to 9-11 (3-6 NESCAC). Next up for Gallo and company is a 7 p.m tilt this Friday at Amherst College with Williams hosting Bates College same day, same time.
Gallo, who finished with game with 20 points and 13 total rebounds, dropped in the first points of the game and the Bantams never trailed from that point forward. At the top of the second quarter, the Connecticut native orchestrated a seven-point run to give her team their largest lead of the game at 13. In the waning minutes of the first-half, Maggie Meehan buried several jumpers and a 3-pointer, followed by another deep ball from teammate Devin Biesbrock to cut the deficit to just two. Sophomore
Tori Varsamis (Belmont, Mass.) answered with a 3-pointer of her own to give Trinity a five-point lead heading into the break.
The Bantams extended their lead to 10 halfway through the third quarter, thanks to a 3-pointer from first-year
Hannah Marzo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and a pair of free-throws from senior co-captain
Elizabeth Althoff (Staten Island, N.Y.). The Ephs managed to hang around as Meehan (13) Mia Holtze (13) and Maddy Mandyck (10) combined for 65% of their teams' scoring.
In the game's final frame,
Indianna DelRocco (Branford, Conn.) dropped in a pair of clutch driving layups to put the Blue and Gold up nine. DelRocco recorded 10 points in the final 10 minutes of the game and finished the night with 14, while also chipping in four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Varsamis and sophomore
Reilly Campbell (Wallingford, Conn.) each registered nine points with all of Campbell's scoring coming in the first half. Senior co-captain
