Trinity Women's Lacrosse Sinks Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior attacker Christine Taylor (Westport, Conn.) scored six times to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 15-9 victory over the Springfield College Pride in women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Stagg Field.  Trinity, ranked No. 18 in the nation, improves to 4-2 and the Pride falls to 3-4.  The Bantams visit No. 10-ranked Tufts New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) contest on Saturday at noon in their next game.

Springfield led, 3-2, after one quarter but Taylor and junior attacker Lily Ives (Chappaqua, N.Y.) scored back-to-back in the second stanza to give Trinity the lead. Jade O'Connor scored her third goal of the game for the Pride to it at 4-all but the Bantams answered with a 3-0 run to close the first half including the last from Ives to senior tri-captain Samantha Booma (Marblehead, Mass.) with 20 seconds remaining before the break.

Trinity sophomore Casey Ward (Norwell, Mass.) and Taylor scored to open the third quarter and complete a 5-0 Bantam run, and the visitors led, 9-4 less than five minutes after intermission.  Springfield rallied to score four of the next five goals, two each by O'Connor and Katie Martel, but Trinity responded with another 5-0 run including three more Taylor tallies.  Taylor added three ground balls to her six goals, while classmate Ellie Kirkpatrick (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) notched three goals and three assists, Ives finished with three goals and one assist.  Senior defender Emma Alpaugh scooped six ground balls and senior tri-captain goalie Gabriella Young (Raleigh, N.C.) made a pair of saves for the Bantams.
