Trinity Men's Lacrosse Toppled By Tufts

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams dropped a 21-10 decision against the visiting Tufts University Jumbos in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's lacrosse action this afternoon at Jessee/Miller Field.  Trinity falls to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the NESCAC, while the No. 3-ranked Jumbos remain perfect at 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the league.  Trinity hosts Coast Guard next on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Tufts entertains Union Tuesday at 6 p.m.  Junior Bill Puccio (Garden City, N.Y.) paced Trinity with four goals.

Trinity came out firing and led, 6-4, with 1:08 left in the first quarter after the second goal of the game by senior attackman Connor McCulloch (Alexandria, Va.) from classmate Luke Valentino (Little Silver, N.J.).  Puccio and junior Cullen Wolff (Maplewood, N.J.) scored scored twice in the opening stanza for the Bantams.  Tufts scored the next nine goals, including three in the final 42 seconds of the first, to lead, 13-6, with 2:17 left before halftime.  Mac Bredahl scored three times for Tufts during the 9-0 run.  Valentino and Puccio scored late in the second quarter to make it, 14-8, at the break.  The Jumbos outscored Trinity, 5-2, in the third quarter, including Bredahl's fourth of the game, and all three goals in the final period.

The teams combined for 102 shots with Tufts finishing with a slight edge, 54-48, but the Jumbos also held a 58-to-37 advantage on ground balls.  Faceoffs and turnovers were about even statistically, and Tufts converted on three of four extra-man chances.  McCulloch finished with five points on two goals and three assists, while junior Andrew Fearey (Duxbury, Mass.) added a goal and two assists, Wolff scored twice, and Valentino had a goal and an assist to give Trinity five players with multiple points in the game.  Sophomore face-off man Dane Crowley (Pelham, N.Y.) won 17 of 32 attempts and scooped nine ground balls and junior middie Jackson Trimmer (Greenwich, Conn.) added three ground balls.  In goal, sophomore Cooper Yaccino (Kenilworth, Ill.) made 15 saves in three quarter and rookie Jordan Opdahl (Rockville, Md.) had four in the fourth.  Bredahl and Jack Boyden had seven points on four goals and three assists apiece, while Kyle Adelmann had eight ground balls, and goalies Connor Garzino and Cody Wiebe combined for 24 saves.
