BRUNSWICK, Maine - The visiting Trinity College Bantams suffered an 18-10 loss to the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's lacrosse action this afternoon at Whittier Field. Trinity drops to 5-5 overall and 1-5 in the NESCAC with its second conference setback in a row. The No. 7-ranked Polar Bears remain unbeaten at 11-0 overall and 7-0 in the league. Up next, Trinity hosts No. 14-ranked Wesleyan in a NESCAC tilt on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Bowdoin entertains Colby on the same day at the same time.
Bowdoin scored nine of the game's first 10 goals, including six in a row in the second quarter. Trinity rallied to score two of the last three goals before halftime courtesy of seniors
Luke Valentino (Little Silver, N.J.) and
Connor McCulloch (Alexandria, Va.). Bowdoin's Patrick Fitzgerald scored his third goal of the first half with 49 seconds on the clock to make the score, 10-3, at the break. Seniors
Harrison Ike (Allentown, Pa.) and
Reid McDonald (Aldie, Va.) scored early in the third frame to pull the Bantams to within five, but the Polar Bears scored the next two and maintained at least a six-goal cushion the rest of the way.
William Puccio (Garden City, N.Y.) scored twice in the second half to finish with a hat trick for the Bantams, while McDonald scored twice, and Valentino finished with one goal and one assist. Sophomore
Dane Crowley (Pelham, N.Y.) won 16 of 29 faceoffs and scooped nine ground balls, while
Ethan Tym (New Rochelle, N.Y.) caused three turnovers, and sophomore
Cooper Yaccino (Kenilworth, Ill.) had seven saves. Fitzgerald totaled four goals and three assists, while Robert Hobbs stopped 17 shots in the Bowdoin goal.
