HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College men's lacrosse team lost to No. 16 Wesleyan University, on Wednesday night in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt at Jessee/Miller Field. The Bantams drop to 5-6 overall with a 1-6 mark in the conference as the Cardinals improve to 9-2 (5-2 NESCAC). Trinity resumes action Saturday as they host Hamilton College at 1 p.m. and Wesleyan travels to face No. 9 Tufts same day, same time.
Wesleyan took control early jumping out to an 8-1 lead in the second quarter.
William Puccio scored the Bantams second tally at the 11:32 mark in the second but the Cardinals scored six-straight to head into half time with a 14-2 advantage. Puccio and
Andrew Fearey added back-to-back goals at the top of the third before Trinity closed out the quarter on a four-goal run with
Cullen Wolff cutting the deficit to 10 inside of 60-seconds. The Bantams had a big fourth quarter but ultimately ran out of time in hopes of producing a comeback. Trinity strung together five consecutive goals and outscored Wesleyan 6-2 in the final frame.
Jake Sexton and spencer Robbins each recorded four goals and three assists apiece for the Cardinals. Puccio led the Blue and Gold with four goals while
Jake Baker registered a hat trick. Colin Hanley and Sam Jewett combined for 10 saves for the Cardinals while
Cooper Yaccino collected 16 saves for the home squad.
