FRANKLIN, Mass. – Sophomore 1B
Sean Meth (Sands Point, N.Y.) went 3-for-5 with two runs, a homer, and four RBIs to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 12-7 victory over the Dean College Bulldogs in baseball action this afternoon at Longley Athletic Complex Wednesday afternoon. Trinity evens its season mark at 12-12 and Dean falls to 7-20. Trinity will travel to Tufts on Friday for a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) game at 3 p.m.
Trinity wasted no time putting runs on the board in the first with a two-run blast by sophomore
James Stefanowicz (Stamford, Conn.). The Bantams added two more in the top of the second before Dean rallied with four in the bottom half to tie the game. Senior Thomas Muizulis Jr. (Waltham, Mass.) had a two-run triple for the Bulldogs. Dean took a 5-4 lead in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Kyle Lancaster (Dartmouth, Mass.). Trinity responded with three runs in the seventh inning on a passed ball and Meth's two-run homer. The home team got a run back in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by senior Ryan Gallagher (Methuen, Mass.) to make the score 7-6.
The Bantams pulled away in the eighth frame with five runs on three hits and an error. Junior
Brandon Chow (Greenwich, Conn.) and sophomore
Bennett Teceno (Centerville, Mass.) led off the eighth with back-to-back doubles, and Meth added a two-run single later in the inning. Josh Cerretani (Peabody, Mass.) knocked in a run for Dean in the bottom half of the eighth, but Trinity held on for the 12-7 win. Sophomore
Sam Craven (Wakefield, R.I.) was credited with the win after 1.2 innings with one run on two hits. Sophomore
Tyler Griffin (Milford, Conn.) also turned in a solid relief appearance for the Bantams with four innings, one unearned run on three hits and five strikeouts.
