Trinity Baseball Drops Final Game Of Bates Series

HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior Drew Fallon went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs to lead the visiting Bates College Bobcats to an 11-10 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division baseball action this afternoon on Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium.  Trinity falls to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the NESCAC East, having swept the Bobcats in a doubleheader yesterday to take two of the three in the weekend series.  Bates, snaps a 13-game losing skid and is now 3-14 overall and 1-2 in the division.  Junior 2B Patrick Dillon (Bronx, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs, and two RBIs for the Bantams.

Trinity found itself in a 6-0 hole after three innings but got three runs back in the fourth frame on a double steal, an RBI single by sophomore SS Jack Mathews (Westport, Conn.) and a balk.  Dillon and sophomore 1B Sean Meth (Sands Point, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the fifth inning with singles and both scored followed by a sacrifice fly by sophomore Yoshi Om-Jarrett (Mill Valley, Calif.) to tie the game at 6-6.  Sophomore lefty Tyler Griffin (Milford, Conn.) had kept the Bantams in the game with 3.1 innings of scoreless relief, including perfect innings in the second, third, and fourth stanzas, but ran into trouble in the sixth.  He allowed four singles and a walk although two of the Bates runs in the inning were unearned. Fallon had an RBI single in the sixth for Bates.

The Bobcats tacked on another unearned run in the eighth inning, but the Bantams came roaring back in their last two turns at bat.  Dillon and senior OD Colin Mann (Dedham, Mass.) delivered with RBI singles and sophomore Andrew Tuozzolo (Pittstown, N.J.) had a sacrifice fly in the eighth to make the score, 11-9. In the ninth, Matthews singled and scored on a Dillon double to left center, but the tying run was stranded when Meth's liner was snared by Bates 3B Henry Jamieson for the last out of the game.  Griffin took the loss despite five strikeouts in 3.2 innings, while senior tri-captain Justin Olson (Avon, Conn.) and rookie Tyler Colditz (Lakewood Ranch, Fla.) combined for just no earned runs over the last 3.2 innings on the mound for the Bantams.  Matthew Shrake improved to 1-0 for Bates, tossing three innings of relief and yielding three hits and a run with 2 K's.
