MEDFORD, Mass. - Margie Carden had four goals and two assists to lead the Tufts University Jumbos to a 14-8 victory over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in the quarterfinal round of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament. Trinity, ranked No. 17 in the nation, ends the year at 9-7, while the No. 9-ranked Jumbos improve to 13-3 and advance to the semifinals against Colby next weekend. Senior attacker
Christine Taylor (Westport, Conn.) paced the Bantam offense with two goals and one assist.
Taylor scored the game's first goal less than a minute into play, but it was the last lead Trinity had in the contest. The Jumbos scored twice in a row, but Taylor fed classmate
Lilianna Khosrowshahi (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) for a game-tying tally with 6:04 left in the first quarter. The Jumbos rattled off four goals in a row before another Khoswrowshahi goal, but then scored twice more late in the second quarter to lead, 8-3, at the break. Five different Bantams scored in the second half but Tufts maintained at least a five-goal cushion to the end.
Sophomore midfielder
Casey Ward (Norwell, Mass.) gave Trinity three multiple-point scorers with a goal and an assist in the second half, while senior tri-captain
Gabriella Young (Raleigh, N.C.) made eight saves. Bantam senior
Emma Alpaugh (Darien, Conn.) was solid on the draw with seven controls. Caroline Walter had a hat trick and Molly LaLiberty had eight saves for the Tufts. The game was the fourth NESCAC Quarterfinal in a row between the two teams with each winning twice.
