Trinity Men's Lacrosse Falls In Overtime At Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College Camels closed the game with a 3-0 run and handed the visiting Trinity College Bantams a gut-wrenching, 7-6 setback in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's lacrosse action this evening at Silfen Field.  Trinity drops to 5-4 overall and 1-4 in the NESCAC, and the Camels are now 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the league.  Trinity visits undefeated and No. 7-ranked conference rival Bowdoin next on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Scoring was hard to by throughout with Trinity holding a 3-2 advantage at the half.  Senior middie Luke Valentino (Little Silver, N.J.) paced the Bantams with a goal and an assist at the break, including a pass to sophomore Andrew Pecora (Congers, N.Y.) who gave Trinity a 3-2 lead at halftime.  The Camels tied the game early in the third quarter, but Bantam senior Connor McCulloch (Alexandria, Va.) scored twice in a row to push his team's lead up to 5-3 at the last break.  McCulloch comverted on an assist by sophomore Andrew Fearey (Duxbury, Mass.) to make the score, 6-4, with 5:56 remaining in regulation, but Nick Farnham brought the home team heroically back with two goals in the final 35 seconds of the fourth quarter.  Connecticut College won the overtime faceoff and J.J. Ford ended it with goal 56 seconds into the extra frame.

Trinity rattled off 52 shots to 37 for the Camels, and had a 32-to-25 advantage on ground balls.  Bantam sophomore Dane Crowley (Pelham, N.Y.) won 12 of 17 faceoffs and scooped eight ground balls, while rookie John Cowdrick (Lexington, Mass.) added four ground balls and two caused turnovers, and sophomore goalie Cooper Yaccino (Kenilworth, Ill.) made 13 saves.  Jack Venturelli registered five ground balls and three caused turnovers and Will Rice was stellar in the home goal with 18 saves.
