HARTFORD, Conn. - Sophomore
Sofia Quijada (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) scored her first career goal in the 53rd minute to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 1-0 victory over the visiting Clark University Cougars in women's soccer action this afternoon on Trinity Soccer Field. Trinity improves to 3-0-2, remaining unbeaten through five games for the first time since 2013, while Clark drops to 2-4. The Bantams visit New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Connecticut College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in their next game, while the Cougars are off for eight days before hosting Framingham State on Sept 26.
The Trinity defense was unbreakable in the first half, holding Clark without a shot until 2:25 into the second stanza. Trinity took nine shots in the first half, but Clark goalie Annabelle White made six saves to keep the game scoreless. Bantam junior forward
Tori Simas (Newburyport, Mass.) had a decent chance from straight-on just inside box in the 29th minute, but White dove low and to her right to deny it.
Quijada's goal came on a corner kick by junior midfielder
Sadie Rudolph (Weston, Conn.) that caromed off the cross bar to her on the left side of the goal, and she knocked it in for the lone marker of the contest. Clark's offense came alive and put four shots on goal in the last 32 minutes but Trinity junior
Mariana Cournoyer (St. Paul, Minn.) saves all four to finish with five for the game and extend her streak of scoreless play to more than 330 minutes.
