NEW LONDON, Conn. - Junior goalkeeper
Mariana Cournoyer (St. Paul, Minn.) made three saves and pushed her streak of scoreless play to over 420 minutes with her fourth shutout in a row, as the visiting Trinity College Bantams tied the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Connecticut College Camels, 0-0, in women's soccer action this evening. Trinity moves to 3-0-3 overall and 1-0-2 in the NESCAC and the Camels are now 3-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference. The Bantams host league rival Wesleyan on Saturday at 11 a.m. in a battle of teams ranked among the top eight in their region as part of Trinity's Homecoming Weekend festivities.
Trinity outshot the Camels, 13-8, but finished with just a 4-to-3 edge in shots on goal. Sophomores
Sofia Quijada (New Hyde, Park, N.Y.) and
Anna Franceschi (Milwaukee, Wisc.) forced Connecticut College goalkeeper Sarah Hall to make back-to-back saves in less than a minute late in the first half for the only two shots on goal of the first half. The Camels were awarded two early corner kicks in the second half, but Cournoyer came up with stops on both tries. Quijada and senior
Hannah Storozuk (Tolland, Conn.) put shots on the mark in the second stanza and Clare Mulvihill got off the game's last shot in the 88th minute but Cournoyer saved her third of the game to preserve the tie.
