HARTFORD, Conn. - Sophomore
Katelyn Charette (Hampton, N.H.) scored her first career goal to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 1-0 victory over the visiting Wesleyan University Cardinals in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action this afternoon. Trinity remains unbeaten at 4-0-3 overall and 2-0-2 in the NESCAC, while the Cardinals drop to 2-3-1 overall and 1-2 in the league and sees its winless streak extended to four games. Both teams are ranked among the top eight in the region. Trinity is No. 5 and Wesleyan is No. 4. The Bantams host Coast Guard on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in their next game and Wesleyan visits Hamilton tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Wesleyan forced Trinity junior goalkeeper
Mariana Cournoyer (St. Paul, Minn.) to make two saves early and four in the first half, while Charette's marker was the first shot on goal for Trinity of the game in the 42nd minute. Outdueling three Cardinals for a loose ball, Charette quickly shot in a rebound of her own initial shot from inside the box and beat Wesleyan goalie Sarah Hammond to the left. Cournoyer was stellar throughout, making a career-high nine saves and extending her streak of scoreless play to more than 510 consecutive minutes for her fifth straight shutout and her sixth in seven games. Wesleyan finished with a 20-to-4 shooting edge and Molly Brumbach had the lone Cardinal save in relief of Hammond.
