Mules Too Much for Women's Ice Hockey, 9-3

WATERVILLE, Maine — In the second matchup of a two-day series at New England Small College Athletic Conference foe Colby College, the Trinity College women's ice hockey team couldn't hold the Mules in a 9-3 loss on Saturday. Trinity moved to 8-9 on the season and 2-8 in the league, while Colby improved to 11-5 and 5-5. The Bantams stay on the road with a two-game matchup at Williams College starting with 7 p.m. puck drop on February 3.

The home team netted a pair of goals at minute apart with the first goal notched by Bri Michaud-Nolan at 7:43 in the opening period. Jenny Guider (Ridgefield, Conn.) narrowed the deficit to one off the stick of Annika Dyczkowski (Milford, Mich.) four and a half minutes into the second period and brought the score to 2-1.. Two minutes later, Meg Rittenhouse took advantage of the shorthanded Bantams, followed by the eventual game-winning goal Lily Wisniewski at 8:34. The Mules scored a fifth goal off a powerplay twelve and a half minutes into the stanza then Lillian Cassidy (Aspen, Colo.) capitalized on the uneven Mule team for the Navy & Gold's second goal of the night with help from Claudia Capone (Foxboro, Mass.) and Jelani Adorno  (Tarrifiville, Conn.). The second period saw two more goals for the home team.

Four and a half minutes into the final period, Stephanie Nevers (West Suffield, Conn.) received the puck from Guider, who set up the senior's shot thanks to Martina Exnerova's (Nelahozeves, Czechia) pass after ditching her defender. Colby padded the win with a pair of shots in the third, including a powerplay goal at 11:52. Trinity went 1-2 in powerplay chances, while the Mules converted on three of their five. In the cage, Hannah Leclair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) made 26 saves, with 12 in the second period. Guider and Nevers are tied on team in goals with six each.
