Wihelmsson Nets Two Goals in 2-0 Shutout at Williams

In the box, Hannah Leclair stopped 27 Eph pucks to keep the home team off the board.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Ethel Wilhelmsson (Stockholm Sweden) connected for two goals in the second and third period to put the No. 24 Trinity College women's ice hockey team up 2-0 at No. 18/19 Williams College on Friday, while Hannah Leclair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) stopped 27 shots in the box to keep the Ephs off the board. Trinity moved to 9-9 overall and 3-8 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, while Williams dropped to 9-9 and 4-7. The Bantams continue it's two-day series at Williams on Saturday with a 3 p.m. puck drop.

Through the opening period, the scoreboard found no love as Leclair denied 13 pucks from the home team and Erin Pye kept the Navy & Gold off the board with 11 saves.

With 4:26 remaining in the second period, Wihelmsson skated passed the Ephs defender to net her first goal of the night and put the shorthanded Trinity foursome up, 1-0. The senior received the puck from Jelani Adorno  (Tariffville, Conn.) after Jenny Guider (Ridgefield, Conn.) sent it across the ice to set up the eventual game-winning goal. Williams had seven chances to even the score but Leclair denied every opportunity for the tie.

In the third period, Stephanie Nevers (West Suffield, Conn.) fired at the goal but Maddie Zack was there to block the puck but Wihelmsson managed to score 26 seconds later as the Bantams grew their lead by one. The Ephs had 12 opportunities to narrow the deficit with two shots ricocheting off the pipe, two blocked by Annabelle Merkel (Chicaho, Ill.), one stopped by Ava Gosnell (Breckenridge, Colo.) and seven saved by Leclair.
