WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Trinity College Men's Ice Hockey program opens the new year on the road at Williams College thanks to a trio of goals by
Eric Sinson (Elm Grove, Wisc.),
Andrew Troy (Itaca, N.Y.) and
Spencer Korona (Enfield, Conn.) in a 3-0 shutout over the Ephs on Friday. The Bantams improved to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, while Williams dropped to 3-8 and 2-5. Trinity remains on the road as it travels to Middlebury on Saturday with a 4 p.m. puck drop at the Panthers.
Less than three and a half minutes into the opening period, Sinson skated pass defenders and slide the puck passed the goalkeeper to put Trinity up 1-0, with the eventual game-winner coming off the pass from
Casey Rhodes (Huntington Beach, Calif.). The Navy & Gold attempted three shots prior to the goal, while the home team only fired off a single shot on goal.
Ben Lawrick came close to netting the equalizer at 1:08 in the second period, but Korona was there to block the puck before five minutes later Troy put Trinity up 2-0 of the sticks of
Nicholas Siffringer (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and
Nick Royster (Charlotte, N.C.). The Ephs had seventeen opportunities to get on the board in the second frame but
Theodore Griffin (Marshfield, Mass.) blocked a trio,
Ned Blanchard (West Hartford, Conn.) stopped two,
Eamon Doheny (Lunenburg, Mass.),
Brandon Cimino (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and
Gerard Maretta (Brick, N.J.) each blocked one, and one ricocheted off the pipe. In that same stretch of chances, goaltender
Devon Bobak made nine saves, including three-straight during a Williams powerplay.
A little over five and a half minutes into the closing period, Korona put the nail in the coffin with the third Trinity goal of the night off the passes from Doheny and
Jax Murray(Minneapolis, Minn.).
In the net, Bobak denied 22 shots with nine coming at the first-year in both the second and third periods. Ephs goalie Evan Ruschill stopped 30 with an explosive 12 in the strong first period for the Navy & Gold. Trinity combined for 17 blocked shots with four of them from Griffin and three each from Blanchard and Doheny.
