CLINTON, N.Y. – The Trinity College Women's Volleyball team overcame a slow start to down host Hamilton College, 3-2 (16-25, 26-24, 25-16, 18-25, 15-6), in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash at Margaret Bundy Scott Field House Friday Night. With the win, the Bantams improved to 15-6 on the season, and 6-3 in NESCAC play, while the Continentals fall to 4-5 in conference and 8-10 overall. This is the Bantams first 15-win season since 2013.
After dropping the first set, 25-16, the Bantams came back to even the match in the second set. Trinity lead a majority of the second frame, holding a 9-4 lead following a kill from senior
Margaret McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.). Hamilton battled back to even the match at 13-13, but the Bantams held an edge as junior
Ava Boloyan (American Canyon, Calif.) teamed with sophomore
Ellie Gordon (Los Angeles, Calif.) and senior
Lola Craig (Los Angeles, Calif.) on back-to-back blocks to hold an 18-13 lead. Hamilton pulled ahead 24-23 with an 11-5 run, but the Bantams held strong with three straight kills from Gordon, Craig and junior
Bella Caffuzzi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to grab the 26-24 win.
Trinity never gave up the lead in the third set, racing to a 6-2 lead after back-to-back kills from Gordon. McCarthy, Craig and junior
Eva Lekovic (San Marino, Calif.) each knocked two kills to help push the lead to 15-11. McCarthy added three more kills down the stretch, while Caffuzzi tallied a block and a kill en route to the 25-16 win.
Hamilton rallied in the fourth set to even the match at 2-2 with a 25-18 win. In the final set, the Bantams rattled off 7-2 run behind kills from McCarthy, Craig, Gordon, Boloyan and an ace from first year
Bella Nash (Manhattan Beach, Calif.). Lekovic and McCarthy delivered back-to-back kills to help Trinity pull away, 12-5, and after a couple Hamilton errors, Craig punctuated the victory with the final strike to seal the 3-2 victory.
The Bantams had four attackers post double-digits in kills, paced by a career-high 15 kills, three blocks and two digs from Gordon. McCarthy registered 13 kills, while Caffuzzi notched 12 kills and three blocks. Craig added 10 kills, nine digs and three blocks. Sophomore
Caroline Howell (Houston, Texas) totaled 28 assists, and junior
Grace Sullivan (Fort Worth, Texas) had 22 assists in the win. First year
Scarlett Jago (Allentown, Pa.) grabbed a game-high 19 digs.
The Bantams will return to the court tomorrow afternoon for their regular season finale against Middlebury in NESCAC action. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
