HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity Women's Soccer team used three second-half goals against visiting Connecticut College to claim a 3-0 win in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action Tuesday night at the Trinity College Soccer Field. The Bantams collect their third straight win to improve to 5-2-3 overall and 3-1-2 in NESCAC play, while the Camels drop to 0-5 in conference and 4-5 overall.
The Camels had the opening scoring chance in the 10
th minute of play as junior Clare Mulvhill (West Caldwell, N.J.) possessed a throw-in and rip a shot from just inside 18' box, but Trinity senior keeper
Mariana Cournoyer (St. Paul, Minn.) made the save to keep the game scoreless. Mulvhill got another opportunity inside the box in the 31
st minute, but her attempt was blocked by Bantams senior defender
Lexi Hasbrouck (Hopkinton, Mass.) to keep things at 0-0 heading into halftime.
With 30 minutes to play in the second half, the Bantams had an advantage on a rush downfield where senior
Tori Simas (Newburyport, Mass.) dropped a pass back to the top of the box where junior
Katelyn Charette (Hampton, N.H.) fired a shot into the upper 90 of the net, to give Trinity the 1-0 lead.
The Bantams added to their advantage with 23:54 remaining in the second half as a Trinity played a ball to the front of the goal, where senior
Cassie Lee (Newton, Mass.) knocked down a touch pass to sophomore
Elena Lindonen (Boxford, Mass.) for the finish, extending the Bantams lead to 2-0.
With 15:12 to play, Trinity senior
Sadie Rudolph (Weston, Conn.) played a ball through the defense and up the sideline, where Lindonen raced past the Camels defense, gathered the ball and chipped a shot over Connecticut College keeper Nici Scola (Braintree, Mass.) to send the Bantams to the 3-0.
"To score three goals against a team like [Connecticut College] was huge," said Trinity Head Coach
Rachael Schroeder. "We came out in a better place in the second half. In the first half, we were letting them dictate the play, but in the second half, we went at them. We did a great job with the counter attack opportunities today, it's something that we see a lot, but we don't always capitalize, so it was great to have such fantastic finishes on our goals. [Bowdoin] is a good team, but right now we are in a good place with three wins in a row, and it puts us in a better mental space to be ready for Bowdoin."
The sides racked up 24 shots during the contest with the Camels holding a 13-11 edge over Trinity. Cournoyer collected a match-high five saves, while Scola notched three stops for Conn College.
Trinity will return to the pitch with a NESCAC road trip to Bowdoin College Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
