BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Trinity College women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest on the road against New England Small College Athletic Conference foe Bowdoin College on Saturday. The Bantams moved to 5-3-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the league, while the Polar Bears improved to 6-2-2 and 3-1-1. Trinity hosts Middlebury College at 11 a.m. on October 14 for Homecoming and Family Weekend on the Trinity Soccer Field.
Through 61 scoreless minutes,
Mariana Cournoyer (St. Paul, Minn.) posted five saves all in the first half as the hosts fired off 11 shots in first 45 minutes of action. The Bantams backfield also blocked Lo Hoglin's shot at 8:45 during a 10 and half onslaught of shots by the Polar Bears. Trinity only cranked out a pair of shots before the half as Bowdoin's goalkeeper Charlotte Iannone denied attempts from
Sadie Rudolph (Weston, Conn.) and
Cassie Lee (Newton, Mass.).
Bowdoin drilled a pair of shots in the second half as Samaya Bernardo's was blocked in the 62nd minute, followed Stephanie Christianson's successful penalty kick seconds later just beyond the outstretched hand of Cournoyer. In the end, Bowdoin held a narrow 13-12 edge in total shots, while both teams put six on net and the Polar Bears earned a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
