WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Volleyball team pushed their win streak to five games with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-15) victory over host Eastern Connecticut State in a non-conference battle at Geissler Gymnasium Tuesday night. The Bantams improve to 9-4 on the season, while the Warriors slide at 9-6 overall.
In the opening set, the Bantams secured a 4-0 lead behind a pair of kills from junior Becca Caffuzzi (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Trinity escorted the advantage to 8-2 as junior
Eva Lekovic (San Marino, Calif.) sandwiched a pair of kills around a strike from junior
Ava Boloyan (American Canyon, Calif.). The Warriors trimmed the gap behind service aces and blocks to possess an 11-10 lead. Down 13-11, the Bantams rallied with a pair of kills from Caffuzzi and Lekovic to regain an 18-13 advantage. The Warriors used a 5-1 run to pull within a point, 19-18, but Trinity closed the door behind a trio of kills from senior
Lola Craig (Los Angeles, Calif.) to take the first set, 25-20.
Knotted at 2-2 in the second set, the Bantams pulled ahead with kills from Lekovic and Craig and an ace from first-year
Scarlett Jago (Allentown, Pa.) to grab a 6-2 lead. Leading 11-9, Trinity used an 7-2 run powered by two kills from senior
Margaret McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.) and strikes from Caffuzzi and sophomore
Ellie Gordon (Los Angeles, Calif.) to build an 18-11 gap. The Warriors closed the gap to four points, 18-14, but Trinity pushed ahead as Caffuzzi and Lekovic teamed up on a pair of blocks to sit at 22-14. East Conn mounted a late 7-2 run, but Boloyan delivered a kill to seal the 25-21 win.
In the final set, the sides traded points with the Warriors holding a 6-5 edge. The Bantams regained control with an 8-2 run, featuring aces from Boloyan and first-year
Bella Nash (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) to grab a 13-7 lead. The Warriors worked the gap to 14-12, but Trinity pulled away with a 7-1 run, and then sophomore
Sarai Davis (Fairburn, Ga.) closed the match out with a pair of kills to lock up the 25-15 win.
Caffuzzi paced the Bantams attack with a match-high 11 kills and a match-high five blocks. Lekovic knocked nine kills with three digs, while Craig added six kills, four digs and two blocks. Boloyan tallied six kills, four digs, three blocks and an ace. Jago snared a match-high 18 digs, and sophomore
Caroline Howell (Houston, Texas) recorded a match-high 20 assists.
The Bantams will look to keep their win streak alive with a road trip to Amherst College for a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) battle Friday at 7:00 p.m.
