Career-High 49 Saves for Leclair in 2-1 OT Win Over Bowdoin

Hannah Leclair stopped 49 Polar Bear pucks in the cage for the Bantams.

HARTFORD, Conn. — In the cage for the Trinity College women's ice hockey team, Hannah Leclair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) denied a career-high 49 saves as the Bantams skated past Bowdoin College at home in a 2-1 overtime victory on Friday. Trinity looks for the sweep against the Polar Bears on Saturday with a 4 p.m. puck drop. The Bantams improved to 10-10-0 overall and 4-9-0 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, while Bowdoin fell to 7-13-2 and 2-13-1.

With less than four minutes remaining in the opening period of regulation, Anyi Sun netted the first goal of the night off the stick of Elena DiMagno to put the visitors up, 1-0. Trinity had a trio of chances to net the game-tying goal in the first but goaltender Sally Solotaroff-Webber nabbed al three and 10 in the scoreless second period with seven Solotaroff-Webber saves and three blocked pucks.

Leclair stopped 19 of her saves in the second period to keep the Bantams in fighting shape before Jelani Adorno  (Tarriffville, Conn.) connected with the back of the net for the game-tying shot with help from Stephanie Nevers (West Siffield, Conn.). Despite the Navy & Gold being shorthanded, Nevers sent the first-year the puck from the right of the goal to mere steps from the blueline and caught the Polar Bear defenders off guard as Adorno drilled the rock deep into the netting with less than two minutes into the final period to force extra minutes.

With a minute and 40 seconds remaining in overtime, Adorno set up Jenny Guider (Ridgefield, Conn.) to end the extra time as the Bantams took advantage of the uneven Bowdoin team for the 2-1 triumph. The Polar Bears had three opportunities to net the game-winning goal but Leclair's glove was there before Claudia Capone (Foxboro, Mass.) fired the first attempt for the Bantams nine seconds before the powerplay started.
