HARTFORD, Conn. — With 16 seconds left on the clock and down a goal, co-captain
Claudia Capone (Foxboro, Mass.) netted the equalizer for the Trinity College women's ice hockey team and forced overtime with Bowdoin College in a 2-2 tie on Saturday. Trinity moved to 10-10-1 on the season and 4-9-1 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, while the Polar Bears dropped to 7-13-3 and 2-13-2. The Bantams finish out the regular season with a two-day series with nearby conference opponent Wesleyan University, with game one slated for February 17 with a 7 p.m. puck drop at the Cardinals.
In the first period, the teams remained deadlocked at zero as
Hannah Leclair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) stopped a trio of saves for the Bantams and Danielle Marquez grabbed 15. Off a powerplay in the second period, Brett Stoddard scored the first goal at 2:31 off the stick of Gia Massari. Three minutes later,
Ethel Wilhelmsson (Stockholm, Sweden) tied the score at one apiece after a scuffle by the net, which allowed
Martina Exnerova to set up the goal.
Off a second powerplay, Peyton Mulhern took the 2-1 lead for the visitors, before a strong push by the Bantams with six skaters on the ice allowed Capone to knot it at two off the pass from
Jelani Adorno (Tarriffville, Conn.). The Navy & Gold had three chances to capitalize off the shorthanded Polar Bears, including two with a duo in the box, but Bowdoin held them off as Marquez totaled 50 saves.
