Trinity Men's Basketball Drops Last Home Game To Tufts

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams closed out the 2022-23 regular season with a 74-59 loss to the visiting Tufts University Jumbos in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) me's basketball action this afternoon on Ogrodnik Court in Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity ends the regular campaign at 16-8 overall and 4-6 in the NESCAC, and will play on the road in the conference tournament quarterfinals next weekend.  Tufts finishes up at 18-6 overall and 6-4 in league and will also play a road game in the NESCAC Tourney next week.

Trinity led, 8-2, early as senior captains Joe Hoch (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) and C.J. Redd (Peekskill, N.Y.) scored six of the Bantams' first eight.  Tufts exploded with an 18-0 run over a 6:30 span to lead, 20-8, at the 11:26 mark of the first half.  A three-pointer by Tyler Aronson put the Jumbos ahead, 34-14, with 7:05 on the clock and the visitors led, 40-20, at the break.  Redd and junior Ben Callahan-Gold (New York, N.Y.) had six points apiece for Trinity at halftime.

Callahan-Gold and Hoch scored five points each early in the second half to help Trinity close its deficit to 44-31 four minuts into the second half, but Tufts responded with a 12-0 run and led comfortably the rest of the way.  Callahan-Gold led all scorers with 17 points and added seven rebounds and two steals, while Hoch scored 12 points, fellow senior Dan Smith (Providence, R.I.) had nine points, and sophomore guard Will Dorion (Needham, Mass.) dished seven assists.  Aronson paced the Jumbos with 14 points.  Tufts shot 56.9 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from the foul line, and outrebounded Trinity, 34-27, to offset 19 turnovers forced by the Trinity defense.
