Women's Lacrosse Edges Williams 11-10 in Home Opener

HARTFORD, Conn. — Caroline Lampert (Wayland, Mass.) netted the eventual game-winning goal halfway into the third quarter in the close 11-10 triumph over New England Small College Athletic Conference foe Williams College on Robin L. Sheppard Field on Saturday. Trinity improved to 1-0 overall and the Ephs fell to 0-1. The Bantams host Western Connecticut State University at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Williams snuck a pair of consecutive goals pass goalkeeper Alyssa Vitale (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) in the first quarter to quickly put the visitors up, 2-0, before first-year Molly McGuckin (Darien, Conn.) connected for the Bantams first goal of the game with 2:15 remaining in the opening stanza. With five seconds left on the board, Katherine McCullough scored for Williams to put the Ephs up, 3-1.

Lily Ives (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Casey Ward (Norwell, Mass.) opened the second quarter with back-to-back goals to knot the score at 3-3 followed by another Williams' goal two and a half minutes later. In the third, Ward, Lampert and Ives traded goals to keep Trinity in the game with goals alternating with Williams highlighted by Lampert's second goal of the night to take the final lead for Trinity and the game-winning shot.

Vitale and rookie Ali Macdougall (Southbury, Conn.) split time in the net for Trinity for a combined eight saves, while Caitlyn Joyce and Caroline Pratt shared the net across the four quarters to total 12 saves. Trinity caused 12 turnovers, while Williams forced nine. Alisyn McNamara (North Hampton, N.H.) and Quincy Connell (New Canaan, Conn.) each racked up a trio of caused turnovers for the Navy & Gold. Lampert and McGuckin both notched three goals for the Bantams, while Ives and Ward each netted a pair.
