Trinity Women's Lacrosse Wins At Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Senior tri-captain attacker Lily Ives (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and first-year Molly McGuckin (Darien, Conn.) scored four goals apiece to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 15-8 victory over the Connecticut College Camels in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's lacrosse action this evening at Silfen Field.  Trinity, ranked No. 12 in the nation, improves to 8-2 overall and 3-2 in the NESCAC with its third win in a row.  The Camels drop to 4-5 overall and 0-5 in the league with their fourth setback in a row.  Trinity will visit conference foe Bowdoin on Saturday at noon.

Trinity fell behind, 3-1, early thanks largely to a pair of goals by Connecticut College's Kate Coughlin.  McGuckin and junior attacker Natalie Miller (Northport, N.Y.) scored in the last 5:14 of the first quarter to knot the game up at 3-3.  McGuckin and Ives scored in the first 90 seconds of the second quarter for a 5-3 Bantam lead, but Coughlin and Julianna Ingrassia scored for the Camels to tie the game again at 5-all.  Ives, McGuckin and Miller closed out the second quarter with goals for an 8-5 Trinity lead at the break.

McGuckin and junior attacker Caroline Lampert (Wayland, Mass.) completed a 5-0 Bantam run with the first two goals of the third quarter. Connecticut College scored two of the next three goals but Ives sandwiched two goals around a third Trinity tally by junior midfielder Casey Ward (Norwell, Mass.).  The Camels scored once more but Miller answered with her third goal with 3:23 on the clock. Coughlin hit a post late and Trinity senior goalkeeper Alicia Vitale (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) made her ninth save.  Violette Nidds had eight stops for Connecticut College.
