Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 Contest Against Colby

HARTFORD, Conn. — Bernardo Simoes (Lisbon, Portugal) nabbed five saves in the net for the Bantams as the Trinity College men's soccer team fell, 2-0, in its home opener against New England Small College Athletic Conference rival Colby College on Saturday. The hosts moved to 1-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the league, while the Mules improved to 3-0-1 and 2-0-1. Trinity remains on its home pitch for a midweek matchup against nearby conference foe Connecticut College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

"We have had a promising start to the season and have really matured as a group," head coach Methembe Ndlovu (2nd season) said. "I felt we never settled in the game, we struggled to settle into a rhythm, and I felt it was an anxious performance from us today. It was good to see our younger players get more experience and we will all take the lessons from this game into the coming matches."

Charlie Scott tallied an early goal for the visitors off the boot of Myles Culley in the 20th minute to capitalize off a Trinity foul. Simoes denied a pair of shots before the goal narrowly squeaked past his gloves into the netting. James Donaldson (Kirkland, Quebec) attempted the first shot of the game for either team at the 15 minute mark, but it narrowly doinked off the crossbar and over the net. The senior captain had another close call at net, but a Mule blocked the shot in the center of the goal line. Trinity outshot the Mules, 13-12, as Brendan McCarthy nabbed all six of the Bantam shots on goal in the net for the visitors.
